Red Squirrel Island: On Photographing The Infamous Isle of Wight Squirrels

One came and sat next to me on a log!

Last week I decided to take a mini break to recooperate from working at my local Hospital and running a business. My parents still live on the Isle of Wight (South of England), and so I visit them time to time. I have very fond memories of growing up there, particularly because I’ve always loved the Island’s rural scenery. There is never a lack of beautiful walking trails to discover.

I’ve always wanted to photograph Red Squirrels and luckily I was offered some help from friends to capture them. They frequently visit them in Nature Reserves and even know some of their names! We took a variety of nuts with us because they like these, as you can see from the photo above. I struggled to get crisp pictures of them because they are very timid and fast! In total we spotted about three squirrels in the end. I really enjoyed how peaceful it was to sit and watch nature and I’m happy with the results.

Here are some of the more successful photos I took of them.
