Flow the Remnant Jazz

Watercolour, 210x297mm

This was my first Watercolour Still Life (apart from the tide)! It’s called, ‘Flow the Remnant Jazz’ and was created for an art open call. I was asked to create a response to the theme of ‘tidal waters’. I often enjoy walking along the Sussex Coast and so I decided to go rock pooling to create my response to this theme. The Sussex coast is know for its unique chalk geology, such as Hag Stones (shown in my painting) and diverse Crustacean species. I actually discovered all the objects in the painting on the beach as I walked to the rock pools, and I was really pleased to have found a Lobster claw!

My aim of the painting was to reflect the enjoyment of ‘being in the moment’, through the use of composition and lighting. I see this painting as a fun experiment and I hope it also reflects the fun side of visiting the Sussex Coast.
